A Dutch tanker truck carrying 20 tons of pig manure exploded in the German city of Cologne, splattering a number of houses and cars, the ANP news agency reported on Thursday.
The manure had become too warm, creating too much pressure in the tank and eventually bursting a glass panel, local fire officials said. The manure was sprayed over a large area.
"I was in the kitchen and suddenly there was no more light coming through the window," one resident said, according to DutchNews.nl.
Some 30 firefighters were involved in the cleanup operation and some houses will have to be repainted.
The Netherlands exported some 700,000 tons of manure last year, 80% of which went to Germany.
