On Thursday, September 9, the World political forum "The Modern State: Standards of Democracy and Criteria of Efficiency" opened in Yaroslavl, 250 km northeast of Moscow. About 500 Russian and foreign participants and 500 journalists are attending the forum this year.

Wildfires raged in Siberia. On Wednesday evening, wildfires crossed the Russian-Kazakh border and began to spread over the Altai Territory and the Novosibirsk Region. The firefighters of the latter managed to bring the fires under control, however others raged on as the situation was complicated by high winds.
The wildfires in the Altai Territory destroyed 330 buildings. According to most recent official figures, two fires are still burning in the Mikhailovsky district, but they pose no threat to populated areas.
