Regional authorities have made the first compensation payments to residents of the fire-hit Altai Territory in Russia's Siberia, the territorial administration said.
On Wednesday wildfires crossed the Russian-Kazakh border and almost completely destroyed the village of Nikolayevka in the Altai Territory. Over 300 buildings were completely destroyed and more than 1,100 people were evacuated from the village.
Some residents hit by the fires have already received 10,000 rubles ($320) each. The residents are also to each receive 100,000 rubles ($3,200) from the regional budget and 100,000 rubles from the federal budget.
The regional administration said 14.14 million rubles [$457,650] has been allocated in aid.
The housing destroyed in the blazes is to be rebuilt by late November, and 1.4 billion rubles ($45.3 million) has been provided for the purpose.
