A special operation on eliminating the militants involved in the murder of Gapal Gadzhiyev, head of the Interior Ministry’s inter-regional department for the fight against extremism in Russia's North Caucasus Federal District, was conducted in Makhachkala, the capital of the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan. The locals helped the law enforcement officers to track down the criminals.
Eight militants, including one woman, were shot dead during the operation. The officers have suffered no human losses.
