Russian and Ukrainian Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Viktor Yanukovuch each got behind the wheel of a vintage car on Friday to lead the international Emperor Nicholas II motor rally across the Russian-Ukrainian border.
The two presidents were at the head of a 36-car convoy for a 60 km jaunt over a Russian-Ukrainian border to mark the 100th anniversary of the first Russian motor rally from the then-capital St. Petersburg to Kiev.
The event was first staged in 1910 when Emperor Nicholas II sent 48 automobiles including Russ-Balts, Mercedes and Opels for a 13-day La Coup du Tzar or Kaiser-Nikolaus-Fahrt.
More than 40 cars participated in that historic rally, which became an annual event.
