The World Car-Free Day was held on September 22. In the Russian capital the day began with huge traffic jams, but many officials preferred public transport to their cars. Several of them, like Moscow First Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov, went to work by foot.

Even the nasty weather did not stop Biryukov.

Biryukov’s “environmental” initiative was supported by his colleague Yury Roslyak.

However, Roslyak preferred to come to work by subway. As he lives in the city center, his journey was short.

Yabloko party leader Sergey Mitrokhin chose a bicycle.

He cycled to the Moscow City Court.

Participation in the Car Free Day campaign is voluntary, but the authorities should promote public interest in environmental problems, Mitvol said.
