Israel will examine a report by the UN Human Rights Council on the interception of an international Gaza-bound aid convoy by Israeli commandos, although the Israeli authorities consider it "biased, politicized and extremist," the country's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

"Israel is a democratic and law-abiding country, which carefully complies with international law and, when such a necessity appears, knows how to study its own actions," a statement issued on Thursday by the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.

UN experts issued a report on Wednesday, condemning as "brutal" and "disproportionate" the Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla, which took place in neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea in May.

Nine people were killed and dozens were injured in the raid, with some 600 Freedom Flotilla activists being detained and deported from Israel.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry's statement also said that although "Israel does not see any reasons to cooperate with this [Human Rights Council's] commission," it will "study its report."

The 56-page report said Israel had committed "a series of violations of international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law."

Israel earlier refused to cooperate with the UN commission investigating the attack, but later agreed to send a representative.

The country also launched its own inquiry into the raid, which revealed flaws in the planning and intelligence aspects of the operation.
