Russian Railways opened the Moscow-Nice route for several reasons. First, this route existed before the Russian Revolution and was quite popular. In addition, it passes through many resort cities that have recently become popular among Russians. On Thursday, September 23, 2010, the train departed from the Belorussky Rail Terminal at 16:17 Moscow time, and will arrive in France at 19:12 local time on Saturday. There are two dining cars in the Moscow-Nice train. The passengers are offered Russian and European cuisine and menus in Russian and English. Tickets for luxury class include a complimentary breakfast each day.
“We offer people the opportunity to reach the most popular skiing destinations,-Innsbruck, northern Italy. It’s a good deal for people who want to spend their vacation at mountain ski resorts,” Deputy President of Russian Railways Mikhail Akulov told reporters.
The trip from Moscow to Nice will take almost 53 hours, and the return trip from Nice to Moscow – about 50 hours.
The train will travel from Nice to Moscow at 75km/h.
