The Arab political and business elite of the United Kingdom gathered on Thursday in London to attend an event dedicated to the launch of the Russian newspaper Anbaa Mosku (the Arabic-language version of Moskovskiye Novosti) in the UK.
Anbaa Mosku Editor in Chief Raed Jaber, Chairman of the Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee Mikhail Margelov, and RIA Novosti Editor in Chief Svetlana Mironyuk were in attendance.

“Today’s Anbaa Mosku has a new look and new content, different from what it was in the Soviet era,” Svetlana Mironyuk said. “Still, this newspaper has a rich history, a good name and the attention of Arab readers in the Middle East. An Arabic-language newspaper with a Russian soul – that’s how we describe it.” She also noted that the newspaper has been in circulation for a year now in thirteen countries in the Middle East.
Publication of Anbaa Mosku had resumed after a seventeen-year hiatus. Chairman of the Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee Mikhail Margelov believes it is a sign of renewed interest in closer relations between Russia and the Arab world.
From 1969 to 1992, the Novosti Press Agency published the Arabic-language edition of Moskovskiye Novosti. RIA Novosti resumed publication of Anbaa Mosku in October 2009, the year of the newspaper’s 40th anniversary. The newspaper has been in circulation in London since June 2010. Its total monthly circulation in London is 10,000 copies. The newspaper is distributed free of charge.

Today, Anbaa Mosku is the only Arabic-language newspaper about Russia. It is distributed in thirteen countries of the Middle East and North Africa. There are plans to expand distribution, both geographically and in terms of readership.
