The list of candidates for new Moscow's mayor indirectly makes evident that the post of the city's mayor and the chairman of the Moscow's city government may be divided, Speaker of Russia's Upper House of Parliament Sergei Mironov said.
United Russia on Saturday proposed Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Sobyanin, Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Valery Shantsev, Transport Minister Igor Levitin, and First Deputy Mayor of Moscow Lyudmila Shvetsova as the four leading candidates for the position of Moscow's mayor.
"The fact that Valery Shantsev was included in the list suggests the possibility that these posts [Moscow's mayor and the chairman of the Moscow city government] may be divided," he said.
"I do not believe that Sergey Sobyanin was included just for the fact of appearance in the list," Mironov said.
Russian political experts suggested that Sobyanin is most likely to receive the position of Moscow's new mayor.
