Families of several victims of the plane crash that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski on Saturday forwarded a letter to the country's prime minister, Donald Tusk, demanding a meeting with him.

A Soviet-made Tu-154 carrying Kaczynski and about 90 officials crashed en route to the western Russian city of Smolensk on April 10, killing everyone on board. The high-ranking delegation was due to attend a memorial ceremony for the victims of the 1940 Katyn massacre, in which Soviet secret police killed more than 20,000 Polish military officers.

"We are currently collecting signatures. This is a request of the families and their representatives to the premier so that he agreed to meet with is," said Malgorzata Wassermann, the daughter of prominent Polish politician Zbigniew Wassermann, who was also killed in the crash

Wassermann was a key figure in Lech Kaczynski's party Law and Justice, a minister in the government of his twin brother Jaroslaw Kaczynski and was repeatedly elected to the parliament.

"We consider this meeting necessary given the existing doubts and important questions regarding the investigation of this case [the plane crash] by the Polish authorities and their cooperation with colleagues in the Russian Federation," the letter says.

Russia has already handed over more than 10 volumes of documents related to the accident to Warsaw.

The families of the crash victims said in the letter that they also seek meeting with the country's health minister, interior minister, representatives of the prosecutor's office and the head of the governmental commission investigating the tragedy.
