Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Sobyanin, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's nominee for the new Moscow mayor, on Monday said he had plans to work out his own city development program.

Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Sobyanin, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's nominee for the new Moscow mayor, on Monday said he had plans to work out his own city development program.

Sobyanin made the statement before the deputies of the United Russia Party and the Communist Party. Medvedev's nominee met with the Moscow deputies before they vote on his candidacy on Thursday.

"I do not have a complex program, but I have certain experience and knowledge, and together with you (United Russia deputies) and public organizations we will draw up such a program."

Many efforts have been taken to improve Moscow's social sphere, Sobyanin said, adding that he would continue to work in this direction.

Apart from Moscow's social and transportation problems, which Medvedev called the city's main problems, Sobyanin pledged to solve the city's complicated situation with construction of housing, education and health care.

Analysts say there is little doubt that the Moscow Duma will approve 52-year-old Sobyanin, who was head of the presidential administration under Vladimir Putin and then Medvedev from 2005-2008 and ran Medvedev's presidential election campaign in 2008.

General elections for Moscow mayor and governors across Russia were scrapped in 2004.
