Residents of Russia's southern Krasnodar Territory affected by major floods that killed at least 14 people will receive their first compensations starting Tuesday, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said.
"We will allocate 100,000 rubles (about $3,300) from the federal budget to each family member for the restoration of lost property. An additional 50,000 rubles ($1,640) will be allocated for these purposes from the local budget," Putin said during a meeting of the United Russia party on Monday.
The government will begin providing people affected by the floods with 10,000 rubles ($330) starting Tuesday to cover "urgent and current needs and expenses."
Nine people are still missing as a result of the floods that hit Krasnodar Territory on Saturday.
A state of emergency was declared in the region after torrential rains in mountainous areas caused rivers to overflow, flooding more than 20 villages.
The Russian emergencies ministry said more than 500 homes had been damaged by the flooding, although the regional administration put the number at over 1,000.
The situation in the flooded area has stabilized and people are currently returning to their homes.
The damage caused by the disaster is estimated at several hundred million rubles.
