Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Wednesday he hopes the EU will recognize the country's presidential polls in December and refrain from making unjust accusations.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Wednesday he hopes the EU will recognize the country's presidential polls in December and refrain from making unjust accusations.

"We don't want anyone to point the finger at us after this election," Lukashenko said after talks with Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite in Minsk.

Grybauskaite called for a transparent election.

"The EU should discard any stereotypes it may be harboring," Lukashenko said. "We want this election to run as well as the previous one did," he added.

Lukashenko won three landslide victories in the 1994, 2001 and 2006 elections on the back of strong Russian support, but has recently fallen out of favor with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Some analysts say the Kremlin may support an opposition candidate at the polls on December 19.
