The bomb detonated by a suicide bomber on Saturday in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan, killing a policeman and injuring at least two others, had the strength of 150 kg of TNT, a regional security official said on Sunday.
A UAZ off-road vehicle full of explosives tried late on Saturday to enter a school compound that is being used by a military unit. It crashed into a roadblock and exploded, the Dagestani Interior Ministry spokesman earlier said.
Hospital officials in the city of Khasavyurt, where the explosion occurred, said 10 people had been brought to the emergency department, while city police said seven people had been hurt.
A police source earlier said that many soldiers and police officers received minor bruises, so the information on the number of victims could continue to change.
According to the National Anti-Terrorist Committee, more than half of all terrorist attacks in the North Caucasus in 2010 have occurred in Dagestan.
The committee reported that in August and September alone, counterterrorism and special operations in Dagestan have resulted in the deaths of 82 suspected criminals or militants.
