American teenager Alexandria Mills won the 60th Miss World-2010 beauty pageant in southern China on Saturday, defeating 120 other hopefuls.

American teenager Alexandria Mills won the 60th Miss World-2010 beauty pageant in southern China on Saturday, defeating 120 other hopefuls.

Botswana's Emma Wareus was second, and Venezuela's Adriana Vasini placed third in the pageant, which took place in the resort town of Sanya on Hainan island.

Russia's Irina Sharipova only made it to the top 20 of the pageant, which was first held in 1951.

According to a brief biography on the Miss World website, Mills, an 18-year-old model from the southern U.S. state of Kentucky, recently graduated from a high-school and wants to become a teacher.

She enjoys travelling, photography, playing the French horn and percussion.

The winner's personal motto says, "The best things in life are worth waiting for, fighting for, believing in, and just never letting go of".
