Georgia and the United States are strategic allies and relations with third countries including Iran are being built with regard to this strategic partnership, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said on Monday.
Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Motaki is to visit Georgia November 3-4. An agreement on scrapping visa requirements between the two countries is planned to be signed.
"A weakening of the U.S. role in Georgia will not occur. Georgia and the United States are strategic allies. Therefore, strategic partnership is taken into account when dealing with third countries," Kalandadze said.
"Skepticism that we could put under question [our] strategic partnership is groundless," Kalandadze added.
"A visa-free regime with Iran is a meaningful step as the number of tourists from Iran has doubled and we are also interested in the growth of trade turnover."
During his visit, Motaki will meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze.
