Russia is ready to back Qatar's proposal to hold a ministerial meeting of gas exporters, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Tuesday at a meeting with Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
"First of all, I would like to say we are ready to support your initiative to hold a meeting of gas producers in November next year," Putin said.
Russia and Qatar have active energy contracts, including through OPEC and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Al Thani will discuss joint projects in the oil and gas, hi-tech and nuclear industries on Wednesday, a presidential spokesman told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.
Qatar is interested in a project to build an LNG plant on the Yamal Peninsula in the Russian Arctic jointly with Russia's Novatek. In July, Qatar invited Gazprom EP International to take part in a tender for oil and gas projects in Qatar.
