Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has submitted to the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, the candidacy of Sergei Stepashin for head of the Audit Chamber, the Kremlin reported Tuesday.
Stepashin has led the chamber, which is a permanently operating financial control body, since April 2000.
The head of the Audit Chamber is appointed by the State Duma on the president's proposal for six years. The candidacy is to be proposed not later than three months before the end of the current head's term of office.
