Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Wednesday called for the provision of equal access to education for handicapped children in the country's schools.
"By 2016, 20% of Russian schools must provide normal conditions for joint education for handicapped children...and create an environment without barriers for all educational institutions in the country," Putin said.
The premier said currently just over 2% of Russian schools are able to accept handicapped children.
He also called on the medical and social services to improve their work on the issue.
