Reform of the International Monetary Fund should continue to give emerging economies a greater role in running the organization, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday.

Reform of the International Monetary Fund should continue to give emerging economies a greater role in running the organization, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday.

"The parameters of this reform, agreed at the G20 finance ministers meeting in Gyeongju [Korea], on October 22-23, are the result of a compromise," he said.

"They will certainly help enhance the Fund's legitimacy in the short term, but do not address the chief problem - substantially increasing developing countries' role in the decision-making process at the IMF."

"The IMF reform should go further," Medvedev said ahead of his visit to Seoul to attend a G20 summit.

The Seoul meeting is to adopt a plan of action for the next three to five years, including country-specific recommendations in the sphere of macroeconomic policy.

"The G20's coordinated action in this sphere is a guarantee that crises will not recur in the future," he said.
