The Russian Audit Chamber said on Thursday it would assess the efficiency of the Defense Ministry's arms procurement practices next year, the head of the office said.
"Next year we will include an audit of the military department's contracts and procurement programs into our plan," Sergei Stepashin said.
Yevgeny Primakov, head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), said the CCI had until recently provided expert assessment services for the Defense Ministry but the ministry had terminated the contract.
The termination of the contract had a negative impact on the transparency of the ministry's financial operations, Stepashin said.
On Wednesday, the Defense Ministry cancelled without explanation a 32.4-billion-ruble tender for the purchase of fuel and lubricating materials.
