Russian team wins FIVB Women’s World Volleyball Championship

The Russian women’s national volleyball team beat the Brazilian side in the final to defend their title as world champions. 15.11.2010, Sputnik International
Russian forward Yekaterina Gamova, received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at the tournament. The two-time champion scored 35 points in the finals and got over 200 spikes in 11 matches. Tatyana Kosheleva, was named best forward of the championship.
“We didn’t have any doubts that we would win because Brazil doesn’t have the players we have. They don’t have anyone like Gamova or Sokolova! It wouldn’t have been right if we hadn’t won,” said volleyball coach Nikolai Karpol. Photo: Russian players celebrating their victory.
