Russia lacks an influential liberal party, but will have a diversified political system in the next decade, presidential deputy chief of staff Vladislav Surkov said on Thursday.

Russia lacks an influential liberal party, but will have a diversified political system in the next decade, presidential deputy chief of staff Vladislav Surkov said on Thursday.

"We believe that there is a need for an influential liberal party. I personally think so. But everything in its own time," he said.

Russia's current political system reflects the sentiments of different sections of society and no one party doubts the importance of the move toward genuine democracy, he said.

The Russian president has set the task of "improving popular representation" and promoting "free, just and civilized competition between the parties," Surkov said.

Russia will have a three-four-five-party parliament in the foreseeable future, he added.

"I believe that within the next decade we will have a flexible, diverse and sufficiently complex political system," Surkov said.

"I am absolutely sure of this," he added.
