Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has been invited to visit Washington on December 8, Polish Radio reported on Saturday.
This will be his first trip to the United States since he was elected the head of state in the summer.
"Poland is one of our closest allies and friends," U.S. President Barack Obama said in an interview with the Gazeta Wyborcza national daily.
"Poles have something that makes a man the best type of ally. There is a great will to defend freedom - their own and others."
Speaking at the NATO summit in Lisbon, Obama said Polish and American troops served together in the most difficult regions of Afghanistan.
"Poles feel compelled to help persecuted nations, as they once were aided by others," he said.
