CSKA Moscow basketball club sacked Serbian coach Dusko Vujosevic on Thursday in the wake of the club's miserable performance in the 2010 Euroleague championships.

CSKA, the 2006 and 2008 Euroleague winners and Russia's reigning champions, have lost five out of six games this season in the European League and are currently in last place in Group D.

Vujosevic signed a three-year contract with the club in June this year.

Assistant coach, Dmitry Shakulin, was appointed by the club's management to take over the team as interim coach.

Andrei Vatutin, the president of CSKA, said it was an "extremely difficult" decision to dismiss Vujosevic.

"We are very sorry to part with Dule, who is an intelligent and likable person. We appreciate his work and we are sure that his career will see another successful revival," Vatutin was quoted as saying on the Euroleague official website.

The dismissal of the experienced Serbian coach follows CSKA's defeat on Wednesday in Italy to Milan.

"Before the game at Milan we believed that the situation can be changed and we did our best to prove it," Vatutin said, adding that Vujosevic simply failed to make contact with the team.

"The head coach cannot help experienced players to make free throws and to score layups in important moments. At the same time Vujosevic wasn't able to find common language with the team - both directly and figuratively," he said.
