A teenager has been arrested in Portland, Oregon, after he attempted to blow up a car in the downtown area where thousands had gathered for festivities, the Fox News website reported on Saturday.
The man, identified as Mohamed Osman Mohamud, who is a U.S. citizen but has Somali background, attempted to blow up an explosive device planted in a car using his mobile phone. The young man is reported to be less than 20 years old.
The car with the bomb was parked in the business center in downtown Portland where on Friday evening thousands had gathered to see the lighting of the city's Christmas tree at around 5:45 p.m. local time.
The unsuccessful bomber was detained thanks to a sting operation. FBI agents had earlier equipped the young terrorist with a fake explosive device.
