A passenger who attempted to hijack an airplane en route to Damascus from Tehran on Saturday was detained in-flight by the airline's security guards, the Iranian Fars news agency reported.
The agency said that a single man armed with a "cold weapon" claimed he had placed bombs on the aircraft and had hijacked the plane.
The news agency did not specify the type of weapon the man had.
There were no reports of injuries and no bombs were found on board.
The aircraft was carrying among other passengers a group of Iranian parliament members to Damascus, Syria, to participate in a conference.
Upon arrival in Damascus, the man was arrested.
