The history of the governmental limousine began in 1958 when the first ZIL-111 was produced. It became the car of choice for Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev.
The ZIL-4104 was built in 1978. This car and its modified versions were used by Soviet leaders Leonid Brezhnev and Mikhail Gorbachev, and first Russian leader Boris Yeltsin.
The legendary ZIL-41052, which weighed a whopping 5 tons, was nicknamed the “tank on the wheels.” The last car in this series was released in 2003.
The concept of the governmental car was brought back to life in 2010 when the Likhachev Automotive Plant was asked to develop a new model for the Russian leadership.
After using Mercedes cars for several years, the country’s leaders will begin to travel again in Russian-made cars.
