Police detained a 32-year-old base jumper who failed to conquer a 35-storey hotel in the southwest of Moscow after his parachute got hooked on a billboard early on Thursday.
The jinxed jumper, Oleg Medenko, has on his account over 40 successful jumps from the capital's skyscrapers, including Ostankino TV tower, the country's tallest structure.
But his latest attempt to jump off the Central Tourist's House did not find much encouragement from law enforcers.
"This jump was illegal since it was not approved by the hotel and local authorities or with rescuers," the police source said, adding the jumper could be charged with hooliganism.
Earlier it was reported the jumper became entangled in electrical wires near the hotel.
