Russia and the former Georgian republic of South Ossetia signed an agreement on Thursday on cooperation in customs control and border protection, the South Ossetian embassy in Russia said.
The agreement was signed during a meeting between the heads of the Russian and South Ossetian customs services.
Russia pledged to protect the borders of South Ossetia and Abkhazia after it recognized the two states as independent in August 2008 after a five-day war with Georgia.
