Russia's state-run United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) and STX Finland have formed a joint venture to build icebreakers, Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, following an agreement signed by the firms on Friday.
The two sides will hold equal shares in the venture, which will have the right to buy 20.4 percent in Aker Arctic Technology from STX Finland. STX will remain a majority shareholder in Aker Arctic, a world leader in Arctic maritime techonology research and development.
USC staff will be trained at Arctech Helsinki Shipyard as part of the deal.
A USC source said the company would contribute two million euros to the joint venture.
The signing ceremony for the deal was attended by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his Finnish counterpart Mari Kivinieni.
