Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated his Turkmen colleague Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov with Neutrality Day celebrated in the ex-Soviet republic, the Kremlin press office said on Sunday.
"Russia treats with respect your country's choice made fifteen years ago in favor of the neutral status conditioned by the desire to build inter-state relations on the principles of good neighborliness, equality and mutual interests," Medvedev said in a congratulatory telegram sent to his Turkmen counterpart.
"Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality status sealed in a special resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly is an important factor to ensure stability, security and stable development in Central Asia and contributes to strengthening international interaction," the telegram said.
