The Georgian government is ready to cooperate with Russia in investigating a series of terrorist attacks in the country, Georgian presidential spokesman Manana Mandzhagaladze said on Tuesday.

Georgia has accused a Russian army officer of being involved in a series of recent bomb attacks.

"All theories must be proved in court," Mandzhagaladze said.

The attacks took place between September and November in different parts of Georgia, including a September 22 bombing in Tbilisi near the U.S. Embassy, October 2 at a railway bridge, October 21 at the Tbilisi railway terminal, and November 28 on the outskirts of the Georgian capital.

On December 4, the Georgian Interior Ministry detained a suspect, Gogita Arkania, and five accomplices.

Arkania said Russian army officer Yevgeny Borisov had forced him to carry out the bombings by threatening the security of his family members and also handed him the explosive devices.

Borisov had been deputy chief of staff of a Russian peacekeeping force in the village of Urta, Zugdidi District, from March through October 2008.

The Russian Defense Ministry has dismissed the allegations as utterly groundless.
