Iran must immediately stop preventing fuel tankers from entering Afghanistan, said Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Zahir Fakiri on Saturday.
"The issue was seriously discussed with the Iranian officials. The Afghan Foreign Ministry view fuel blockade by Iran as a technical problem," Fakiri said.
Iran has been preventing the Afghan fuel tankers from crossing into Afghanistan for four weeks. The tankers deliver fuel from Turkey, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates.
More than 2,000 fuel tankers are stranded on the border between Afghanistan and Iran. Experts said the move reflects Iran's concerns that the fuel supplies the U.S.-led NATO troops in Afghanistan.
"We repeatedly asked Iran to stop the fuel blockade because it makes Afghans suffer from the winter that has come," the spokesman said.
