Moscow's largest airport's power supply has been restored, officials said on Sunday, after a major power failure left over 8,000 passengers stranded.

Moscow's largest airport's power supply has been restored, officials said on Sunday, after a major power failure left over 8,000 passengers stranded.

"Power supplies to Domodedovo airport have been restored," the Moscow United Electric Grid Company said.

Domodedovo airport, Russia's busiest, was closed on Sunday morning after power lines were snapped by icy rain. Some rail services were suspended.

Power outrages have left 412,000 people without electricity across several regions in central Russia on Sunday, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told a government meeting.

He urged Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu to "mobilize all units" in order to tackle the "latest weather anomaly," as meteorologists predict there is little relief in sight.

Moscow's other two major airports, Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo, remained open, although over 60 inbound and outbound flights were cancelled at Sheremetyevo.

Officials have warned of dangerous driving conditions, as snow and ice are causing further disruption to main road routes in and out of Moscow.

Moscow residents have been warned to stay indoors.
