The VIP guest and his granddaughter, Snow Maiden, were accompanied by a large entourage: Snowmen, the Twelve Months, drummers, and heralds.
Father Frost covered thousands of kilometers on his way to the capital and visited a host of Russian cities, including Naberezhnyye Chelny, Kazan, Samara, and Yaroslavl.
“Moscow is decorated with lights, and there are so many skating rinks, gyms, and children’s playgrounds! Muscovites have everything they need to get be active,” Father Frost said.
Father Frost wished Muscovites good health and encouraged them to start becoming active in sports, reminding them that the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi was approaching.
He advised boys and girls to head to the skating rink on the first day of the New Year and not just “lie there in front of the TV.”
Muscovites gave Father Frost a large bell.
Then Father Frost and Snow Maiden illuminated the country’s main fir tree, while the excited audience looked on in amazement.
This is the first time this celebration has taken place on Sobornaya Square.
New Year performances usually used to take place either on Tverskaya Square or Manezh Square.
