About 50 animals died in a deadly fire which broke out in a traveling circus on the outskirts of St. Petersburg on Monday, a spokesman for the local branch of Russia's Emergencies Ministry said.
The fire did not affect the animal performers of the circus, but about fifty other exotic animals on exhibit at a sideline show died, a circus spokeswoman said.
A skunk, several ferrets, monkeys and rabbits were among the victims of the disaster, all of them belonged to private owners, she added.
People were not injured in the fire. It took the firefighters about two hours to put out the blaze.
