The death toll from an outbreak of cholera in Haiti has risen to over 3,300 while another 139 people have been infected in the neighboring Dominican Republic.
"The number of people receiving medical treatment in Haiti has exceeded 150,000 and over 3,300 people have died. Another 139 have contracted the disease in the Dominican Republic," Russia's chief sanitary doctor, Gennady Onishchenko, said.
Onishchenko earlier warned that the spreading of the Haitian cholera outbreak to the Dominican Republic, a popular tourist destination among Russians, was only a matter of time.
The deadly disease has affected all provinces in the republic.
Russia's chief sanitary doctor said earlier the scope of Haiti cholera spreading showed that the world was "on the brink of the first cholera pandemic in the 21st century."
