Russia reached the finals of the 2011 World Junior Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. with a 4-3 shootout win Monday over Sweden.
The Russian side led 2-0 by the middle of the second period, but faced elimination close to the end of the game after allowing three unanswered goals.
However, Sergei Kalinin took the game into overtime with 67 seconds to go in the third period.
During the shootout, goalie Dmitry Shikin sealed the Russian goal, while a shot from Denis Golubev brought Russia a well-deserved win.
The second finalist will be determined in a semifinals game between Canada and the United States.
Russia has not played in World Junior Championships finals since 2007, when it lost to Canada.
