Wow, Russia. Woe, Canada. The Russian ice hockey team comes in for praise from President Dmitry Medvedev after thrashing Canada in the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship Finals.
Writing on his Twitter account on Thursday, Medvedev said: "Congratulations to our national hockey team on winning the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship. Well done!"
Russia scored five unanswered goals in the third period to overcome a 3-0 deficit and shock Canada, 5-3, at a packed HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y. on Wednesday night.
The improbable comeback victory secured Russia's 13th title and first since 2003.
