Tajik law enforcement officers have seized more than 100 kg of drugs in raids on Tajikistan's border with Afghanistan and in the capital, Dushanbe, the State National Security Committee announced on Friday.
"Ninety-six kilograms of drugs were seized in the Hamadoni district, where border guards and a special group of security committee officers clashed with Afghan drug smugglers who had violated the state border," a National Security Committee representative said.
The operation resulted in the death of one of the smugglers, an Afghan citizen, and the recovery of 93 kg of hashish and 3 kg of heroin.
During an earlier raid in Dushanbe, 13.5 kg of heroin and 3 kg of hashish were seized, the official added.
He said several drug dealers were arrested.
