A Russian skier has died after being buried by an avalanche in the Italian Alps, local media reported on Monday.
The incident took place in the Valle d'Aosta region bordering France and Switzerland on Monday evening.
The 34-year-old Moscow resident Sergei Simakov and his three friends, who survived the incident, were caught by the avalanche at 2,200-meter altitude in an area where skiing is prohibited.
Local media said the skiers themselves had provoked the avalanche.
