Dismantling of Christmas trees on main Moscow streets and squares began on Thursday night.

Workers removed garlands and decorations and disassembled the trees.

“That’s it, the holidays are over,” municipal workers said.

Light fountains, illumination and other street decorations are being taken away along with the Christmas trees.

Employees have just one week to dismantle more than 600 festive displays.

The city will return to its familiar sight by January 21, by which time all the festive decorations will have been removed.

During the holidays Russian capital was decorated with 133 light fountains, 18,722 Russian flags and 1,071 posters and vinyl panels with New Year symbols.
