The Ministry of Physical Fitness, Sport and Tourism of the Chelyabinsk Region and the Organizing Committee of the European Judo Championships have announced a competition to choose a mascot for the championships.

The championships will be held in Chelyabinsk from April 18 to 21, 2012.

“Anyone residing in the region can take part in the competition, and each participant can submit up to three designs. The winner will get 50,000 rubles while the runners-up will be given tickets to the events,” says the statement on the governor’s press service.

The competition opened on January 15 and will run until February 28. The Organizing Committee will announce the results by April 1.

The jury consists of top officials from the governor’s team and the region’s Ministry of Physical Fitness, Sport and Tourism, as well as experts from advertising and design agencies across the southern Urals.

Judokas from 50 European cities will take part in the competition. Chelyabinsk, the largest city in the southern Urals, expects to welcome 1,500 participants, 150 judges and over 200 coaches.
