Ukraine's election commission has refused to register a referendum by an action group seeking the impeachment of the president and the dismissal of parliament and calling for early elections, the commission said on Tuesday.
"The commission refused to register the action group's referendum set up at a people's meeting on December 6," the commission's press service said in a statement, adding that the group's application failed to comply with the law.
After years of political turmoil under former President Viktor Yushchenko, Ukraine has seen a period of relative political stability since Viktor Yanukovych came to power last February, narrowly defeating former prime minister and now opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko who is now under criminal investigation.
