Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the Polish opposition leader whose twin brother died in last year's plane crash in western Russia, blamed Russia for the tragedy on Wednesday and urged a rejection of Russia's report on its causes.
Kaczynski has repeatedly criticized the CIS Interstate Aviation Committee's (MAK) report for putting "the full and one-sided blame" on Polish pilots.
"We put forward a resolution which rejects the MAK report," Kaczynski said in his address to the country's parliament. "The Russian side is to blame for direct causes of the tragedy."
Kaczynski, a losing candidate in the early presidential elections that followed the death of his brother, has long been a fierce critic of the incumbent government. He left the parliamentary session hall earlier in the day to demonstrate his disagreement with the speech of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who accused the opposition of "political gambling" and said "some people" just don't want the truth.
"We want to know the truth. This is our duty and we will go ahead with it. Russia will have to take the international opinion into account," Kaczynski said.
Then Polish president Lech Kaczynski and many Polish officials were killed when a Tu-154 plane crashed upon landing near the western Russian city of Smolensk on April 10, 2010.
The CIS International Aviation Committee (MAK) released a report on January 12 citing pilot error as the main cause of the tragedy, which occurred when the plane hit trees while attempting to land in thick fog.
Polish experts and officials have criticized the report, saying it lacks sufficient evidence for its findings.
