MOSCOW, January 27 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has canceled its request for an international arrest warrant against fugitive businessman Yevgeny Chichvarkin, a spokesman for Interpol in Russia said on Tuesday.
"Interpol's international arrest warrant for Chichvarkin was dropped on January 26, in accordance with the decision of the Interior Ministry to cancel the warrant," the spokesman said.
Russian investigators said on Monday they had dropped charges against Chichvarkin, the former CEO of cell phone retailer Euroset, after what was widely viewed as a politically motivated case.
Russia had sought Chichvarkin's extradition since he fled to Britain in 2008. He was accused of kidnapping an employee and of blackmail.
