Authorities in Egypt extended on Saturday the length of a curfew imposed following the massive anti-government protests, state television said.
The curfew, which had been declared between 6 p.m. (1600 GMT) and 7 a.m. (0500 GMT) in Cairo, Alexandria and Suez, now runs from 4 p.m. (1400 GMT) to 8 a.m. (0600 GMT).
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said in a statement the move was aimed at "maintaining security and protecting state and civil property amid ongoing riots."
Earlier on Saturday, the Egyptian Army warned people against violating the curfew and gathering in public places. It said "legal measures will be taken against those in violation."
Anti-government protests continued for the fifth day on Saturday with crowds of tens of thousands demanding President Mubarak step down after three decades in power.
Mubarak on Saturday rejected calls from protesters to resign and dismissed the country's government.
Thousands of foreign tourists arrived in Cairo's airport on Saturday trying to find flights out of the country.
Russia's federal tourism agency sent its special representatives to Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh to aid Russian tourists.
The agency said the situation on the Red Sea resorts was calm and neither clashes nor demonstrations there were reported. The airports of Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh are working in a normal regime.
The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier recommended tourists stay in their hotels and not leave guarded resort areas.
According to the agency, over 25,000 Russians are currently staying in Egypt, which is a popular tourist destination.
