The United States national football team has cancelled a friendly match against Egypt scheduled for February 9 due to the current situation in the Middle East country, the United States Soccer Federation said on its Website.
"We were excited about the opportunity to play against Egypt, but due to the current situation all parties agreed it was best to cancel the match," USSF President Sunil Gulati was quoted as saying.
"We appreciate the efforts of the Egyptian Football Association and the U.S. State Department as we worked through this situation," he added.
Egypt has been engulfed in violent protests since January 25 against President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year regime, with demonstrators demanding economic and political reforms. Some 150 people have been killed and another 4,000 have been injured, according to Al-Jazeera TV channel.
